On Febraury 12, 2015, President Stanley named Vice President for Information Technology & CIO Cole Camplese temporary leader of Project 50 Forward/Operational Excellence after the departure of Barbara Chernow, Senior Vice President for Administration.

Talent Management System

Stony Brook University's new Talent Management System has helped the campus community hire more than 200 esteemed faculty and staff who help make this campus community a vibrant place to grow and learn.

The new talent management system has helped manage 1,100 job openings, and 27,474 new applicants.

Security

Stony Brook University is making cyber-security a priority like never before. DoIT's Information Security team is leading the charge. A Project 50 Forward Project has been approved with a focus purely on information security program management.

Other initiatives include: Two Factor Authentication, Host-based intrusion detection, Log collection and correlation, and Vulnerability scanning.

Stony Brook is working taking the lead working with other SUNY campuses in implementing shared security services.

DoIT has also been busy responding to security tickets and alerts. Over the past 12 months, DoIT has opened and responded to over 2000 security related tickets.

Valuing Professional Growth

At the start of the academic year, Vice President for Information Technology Cole Camplese said that DoIT would allocate new dollars toward professional development, construct a common opportunity for sharing travel reports in Yammer and SB You, and challenged the organization to achieve 100% compliance in annual review rates.

Chasing Performance

  • DoIT performance program annual review rates increased from 72% a year ago to 80% in 2015. We’re still chasing after 100%, but definitely heading in the right direction and making progress.

  • There were 46 posts, 60 likes and 23 replies by staff members actively contributing to the IT Travel and Training group in Yammer, often bringing back and sharing new knowledge acquired from workshops and conferences attended throughout the year.
